From Leeds Arts University Graduate Summer School: I am finding the webinars extremely useful. I have just finished my MA in Creative Practice. I know what I would like to do next and these presentations have provided me with the skills, confidence and the impetus to start my job search. I have really appreciated that they are online as during the holidays I have childcare responsibilities so would not have been able to travel into Leeds each day.

MA Creative Practice Student, Leeds Arts University

As HELOA London Chair for a diverse group of colleagues from 18 different universities, a big responsibility and challenge of mine is to support the personal and professional development of my members. I approached Gary to seek advice on ideas for CPD sessions.  Within just a few hours he was able to extract enough information and formulate a number of innovative and useful ideas. Gary developed a workshop on influencing upwards, coaching junior and middle management staff on how to influence senior management to take interest in their work. This was exactly the type of training our membership has been after for years, and Gary certainly delivered. Despite an audience of professionals at different levels in their career, the feedback from his session was overwhelmingly positive, with several colleagues recommending Gary’s workshop for the HELOA Annual National Conference.
Not only is Gary approachable, he is keen to help people find solutions to problems. I can’t recommend him enough and will continue to do so in my sector.

Rupa Lakhani, HELOA London Chair

Gary provided invaluable leadership in setting up a small team from scratch to develop a new product concept, hiring a committed and capable group of people; putting in place a programme of discovery research and engagement with potential product users; and managing a range of complex stakeholder issues including procurement, data protection and IP. Gary showed enormous commitment to the objectives of the organisation; he was reliable and thorough in ensuring delivery to deadlines; and skilful in his oversight of staff. I would certainly work with Gary again in the future.

Roger Taylor, Passport for Life CEO, The Careers and Enterprise Company

Gary successfully led a complex project to evaluate the return on investment (ROI) of Imperial Brands global entry level talent (e.g. Internship/Graduate/MBA) programmes in 2017. Designing a bespoke ROI model – this enabled us to measure progression, engagement, retention and cost. Consequently, this assisted the business in making ‘data-driven’ decisions and influenced our strategic priorities such as changing the global recruitment process. Gary is analytical and has a great attention for detail, but is able to translate this into practical solutions. I’d welcome the opportunity work with Gary again and know he will always exceed the expectations of his clients at Graduate Transitions.

Simon Perry, HR Business Partner, Imperial Brands

Gary has supported us on a number of university projects over the last couple of years. He has a great deal of relevant knowledge that is invaluable to any project and he is very easy to talk to, often making sensible and helpful suggestions. One of Gary’s greatest attributes is his upbeat and positive approach and his willingness to support the wider team in any task. I really enjoy working with Gary and look forward to continuing to do so for many years to come.

If you need a top class strategist who will help you set a winning direction so you can deliver the impact you are seeking, then look no further.  Gary has the knowledge and understanding needed, the knack of helping you see the wood from the trees to clarify your thinking, and the gravitas to challenge appropriately where needed.  His contribution towards helping me secure our NESTA/UK Government funding was immense and I value his wisdom and professionalism.  I can recommend his services without reservation.

Carolyn Parry, Director and Lead Coach, Careers Advice for Parents / Career Alchemy

We engaged Gary to undertake a thorough review of our provision in the area of careers and employability.  His comprehensive and thoughtful report and his helpful recommendations have been invaluable to us as we build the infrastructure necessary to provide students with a very distinctive service in these key areas. Gary’s knowledge of both sides of the careers world has made this much more straightforward and also saved us a considerable amount of time. We would warmly recommend him for a similar assignment.

Gary is a true expert on Early Talent.  He is extremely knowledgeable, very well networked and has looked at the matter of Early Careers Recruitment from every angle having worked in a careers advisory role, as well as on the employer side and as a third party consultant.  He is very reliable, extremely credible and talented at extracting the right conclusions from thorough analysis.  I always enjoy working with him and have no hesitation in recommending him.

Sophie Meaney, Managing Director, Consulting Solutions & Strategic Development, Amberjack

Gary has a unique perspective on university careers work and the employment agenda as he has been both a graduate recruiter and a head of a careers service.  This experience means he understands how difficult it can be to engage students, employers and academic staff on campus.
Gary produced a thoroughly researched and insightful report for me on working with computing students and how to improve their employment prospects specific to the UH context. In addition he had useful advice on what information might help to engage employers with specific schools at UH.  I would highly recommend working with Gary and hope to do so again myself in the future.

Judith Baines, Head of Careers, Employment and Enterprise Service, University of Hertfordshire

I recently had the pleasure of working with Gary Argent on a quality audit of Career Education, Information, Advice and Guidance provision at ifs University College.  Acting as an external auditor, Gary helped to design the terms of reference for the audit, then undertook a thorough and considered analysis of the self-evaluation document and supporting evidence that was provided by the team being audited.  Gary was able to apply his considerable understanding and experience of the graduate recruitment and career services industry to the review he undertook and was able to clearly identify areas for further investigation.  Gary’s skills in working with people and his ability to elicit trust and confidence was apparent in the student and staff interviews he undertook as part of the audit process. Gary was highly professional and committed to the tasks and deadlines agreed and his work produced a clear and comprehensive report with meaningful feedback.  I thoroughly enjoyed working with Gary and I would have no reservation in recommending Gary to future clients.

Gary brought both expert knowledge and enthusiasm to his presentation on How Work Experience Helps Students to Stand Out from the Crowd. He made an unforgettable contribution to the NASES Annual Conference 2015 highlighting the need for early intervention when preparing our university students for the competitive labour market. We have received high feedback from the session and look forward to Gary presenting for us again.
